It’s a Cold Night in Sendai

It’s a cold night in Sendai,

As the snowflakes flutter by.

All those lives turned upside-down,

In the rubble, once stood a town!

That fateful day the Earth shook,

Buildings swayed and people cried.

An angry sea crashed and overtook,

The Rising Sun, had it died?

Children ripped from mother’s arms,

Countless souls stand amongst debris.

Ships now lie where once stood farms,

Where schools were, there’s ghastly sea.

It’s a cold morn in Sendai,

The walking numb pass on by.

All those lives turned upside-down,

In the rubble, once stood a town!

In the shelters lie those spared,

Arm in arm and heart to heart.

A common fate they will share,

Praying the world does its part.

Have we received our true test,

Will we all rally around?

Could it be us at our best,

Is a common purpose found?

It’s a warm day in Sendai,

As the birds chirp in the sky.

Out of loss, life has begun,

We are one, the Rising Sun!
